Machinable AlN Aluminium Nitride comes in 2 common forms, probably the best known is Shapal M soft, (which is far from soft as it happens) and BNP2, both of which are readily available here at Multi-Lab ltd as either fully machined parts (bespoke manufactured) or in blanks for use in your own workshops.

Machinable AlN is loosely speaking; an alloy of Boron Nitride and Aluminium Nitride, this combination offers a material that can be readily machined in a conventional manor with tungsten carbide tooling into very complex geometry components while maintaining high thermal conductivity (approx. 92 Wmk) and good mechanical strength lending itself to an incredibly wide range of applications.

Although the thermal conductivity of machinable versions is considerably less than that of pure aluminium nitride, it is still some 50 to 60 times greater than that of MGC Machinable Glass Ceramic

Machinable AiN is broadly used in the following fields Aerospace / Defence, Nuclear, Ultra high Vacuum, Solar & Semiconductor but to mention just a few !!  And product wise, the most common application might be Heat Sinks & carriers for electronic packages.

Its quite important when making your final decision as to which version you will use ? to understand that BNP2 is a far more cost effective solution over that of Shapal M soft.
