Onward and Upward for Multi-lab!

Multi-lab was set up in 1984 by Ron Jackman Snr and his wife Audrey. Their two sons Ron and Paul joined the family business in 1988. Multi-lab currently employs 70 people across its two UK sites.

It currently boasts around 90 per cent of the UK fabricated quartz glass market and is one of the top three firms in Europe, supplying a range of industries including semi-conductor, photovoltaics, chemical, defence, pharmaceutical and research organisations with fabricated quartz and ceramic components.

As part of the project, Multi-lab is investing in state-of-the-art CNC machines for quartz glass fabrication and optical grinding and polishing. A new carousel manufacturing system and an MRP system – that allows orders to be traced in real time – will also be introduced.

Ron Jackman, group sales director, added: “These are exciting times for the company.  we’re delighted to be offering our market leading expertise and technology to such  innovative projects to sustain our growth strategy for the next 5 years.

“The support from Tyne and Wear Development Company and One North East has been extremely useful and will help to underpin a successful future for Multi-lab.”

Tyne and Wear Development Company assisted Multi-lab with its initial property search and also advised the team on sources of funding available for capital projects.

Jim Malloy, from Tyne and Wear Development Company, explains: “Multi-lab is a terrific success story for the region. It’s a traditional, family-run business that has grown into one of the world’s leading experts in its field.

“The technology and expertise the company boasts is second-to-none. It’s fantastic to see them involved in such exciting ventures which have endless growth potential.
