Here at the Multi-Lab Group, we produce & supply all kinds and grades of Industrial and Technical Ceramics,
This week for instance, we have been working on the development of a super pure oxide powder, ( the little known Tantalum )
We have spent the last five years developing the process and from the preforms in the pic, we and our partners are achieving 4 decimal place purity Capacitor grade tantalum powder !!
We have also developed state of the art C I M Ceramic Injection Molding of complex technical ceramic parts in a range of materials including Aluminium Oxide , Zirconium Oxide & Steatite Etc.
As you can see, very complex & intricate detail is made very easy compared to that of the old fashioned Dry Pressing method.
We also have Isostatic pressing capabilities in both Hot known as ( HIP ) and cold, this process is usually for larger parts that are then green machined on our CNC’s prior to a sintering process, as per the image below ……………
These parts then had a final diamond grinding process to achieve the necessary vacuum seal surface finish.
This process allows for even greater precision, down to that of microns, by method of grinding, lapping & polishing where necessary.
We have the capability of cylindrical diamond grinding up to 650 mm diameter along with the huge capacity on our 5 axis machining center.
Where demand dictates, we can machine prototypes in Cornings MACOR MGC Machinable Glass Ceramic, however it is becoming more and more noticeable that our Low Cost CIM tooling coupled with extremely cost effective injection molded parts prices that we are often able to produce the Tooling and a low volume of parts approx 25 for less than the cost of producing machined parts !! The other advantages of this route are that your samples are in the exact same material that your production items will be produced in, a win win situation !
As you can see from the image below, We have state of the art CMM capabilities at both UK manufacturing sites …..
In this day and age it would be impossible to operate at any high level of engineering without CMM technology.
