This material is made by melting very pure raw materials and is used for applications, that require a very good thermal strength or an excellent transparency for wavelengths below the visible spectrum.

This very high UV-transparency of Synthetic Quartz cannot be outperformed by any other glass materials,  Because quartz glass offers a remarkable transmissivity  of ultraviolet wavelengths, it is often used for applications that use ultraviolet light.

Excellent thermal properties enable fused silica to hold up very strong thermal loads and allow a very high operating temperature.

Due to its low coefficient of thermal expansion, Synthetic quartz glass shows a very good thermal shock resistance. Hence, the glass is often used for the fabrication of heat resistant windows, that must withstand high temperatures of up to 1000 °C without melting or breaking.
